East-West MeRC TrustWhere Doctors and Countries Unite.
East-West MeRC Trust
The East-West MeRC Trust was founded by Dr. Vinod Agrawal in collaboration with Dr. Neel Anand, who is the Director of Spine Trauma at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California. The trust was established on the principle of striving to enhance the skill and technology available in the field of orthopedics with special emphasis on spine surgery. This trust functions as a non-profitable organization and plans to achieve greater collaboration between orthopedic surgeons in the United States and India.
It also aims to grant fellowship opportunities to young orthopedic surgeons, from financially weak families, who are keen on gaining experience in an American center. The Trust holds a conference every year in the month of May where spine surgeons from the United States as well as the top spine surgeons in India are visiting faculty. This faculty represents the expert group involved in developing and testing new and emerging technologies in the field of spinal surgery.

Operative Spine Forum - 2016
The Operative Spine Forum is interactive an event conducted by the East West MeRC Trust every year. This initiative was kickstarted in 2016 in Nanavati Hospital, Mumbai. There were over 200 registrations by young spine consultants from all over India in the presence of 12 of India’s finest spine surgeons and Dr. Anand as national and international faculty. Eight patients were treated free of cost by the expert spine surgeons and the operation was relayed in real time to the conference room where young surgeons could ask any number of questions to the veterans. All patients operated upon showed excellent surgical results and are now in amazing shape. The success of this conference has set us up for another round in 2017 where we hope to spread more knowledge and help many other non-affording patients who desperately need spinal care.
Operative Spine Forum 2017
The second instalment of the Operative Spine Forum was conducted at Lilavati Hospital and Research Centre in Bandra, Mumbai. 19 patients were operated during the two days of the conference. 4 international faculty from the United States were flown in to demonstrate new and upcoming techniques in the field of Minimally Invasive and Spine Deformity Surgery. With the support of Lilavati Hospital, the patients were operated upon near free of cost. Our aim for next year is to make this endeavour completely free of cost for needy patients.
